Noose - Unmasking Mental Health Through Heavy Metal
When it comes to mental health issues such as depression and anxiety, the members of Noose- Anthony, Austin, Damian, Don, and JP have had an agenda since they formed under the name Figures, in 2013. Their messages, that mental health is just as important as physical health and that it’s time for our society to take mental health seriously, are significant for our era.
Noose’s lyrics express deep feelings and struggles that the band members themselves have faced.
The emptiness inside is making the days harder and the nights even longer, it's hard to tell how long I'll last when I'm living every day hoping it's my last. - From Self-Induced, on the EP, Anguish
A fixture in the Tampa heavy metal scene, Noose followers affirm that, over the years, the band’s repertoire has helped them to get through tough times.
Noose wants their fans to know that they’re not alone in their struggles. All five band members feel a responsibility to what they describe as an “honest, sensitive, and authentic” homegrown community that supports their music.
It’s intentional that every live Noose performance provides a 100% release for the band. While it makes sense that Noose experiences their own music as liberating, their fans also share in that catharsis.
For those who resonated with Noose’s first two EPs, What Has Become (2015) and Anguish (2017), a third, untitled EP will be released in the coming months and promises to be more “conceptual and true” to the band’s evolving vision. The group agrees, “We’re all dealing with mental health issues and we’re putting it out there for others in a genuine way.”
You can find Noose on Apple Music, Spotify, and YouTube. A tour will follow the release of the third EP. Check the band’s Facebook page for tour dates and cities.
