GREAT MUSIC WITH DELICIOUS FOOD AND ALL IN A FAMILY ATMOSPHERE.
When you walk into JV’s Restaurant, which has been servicing Northern, VA since 1947, you feel as if you’re walking into owner Lorrain Campbell’s living room; not the iconic music room in Falls Church, Virginia which has nurtured the local music scene for the last seven decades.
If the walls could talk they surely would sit you down, get you some homemade blueberry cobbler, a cold beverage, and recant true stories of music legends ranging from Eddie Fisher, The Seldom Scene, Tony Rice, Roy Clark, Roy Buchannan, Jimmy Dean, Little Jimmy Dickens, Ricky Scaggs, Ron Holloway, to band members of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet, Moody Blues, Almond Brothers, and Alice Cooper who have all graced the stage in the restaurant’s seventy-two years.
When we visited JV’s Restaurant, it felt more like a family reunion where an argument actually doesn’t break out. Instead, the atmosphere welcomed strangers to a place filled with laughter and memories from many patrons and musicians who have been calling JV’s their home away from home for years.
As we looked around to find a seat, it was difficult not to notice the paraphernalia on the walls that ranged from signed guitars, armed forces memorials and tributes, photos of bands who have played at JV’s, special paintings, mainly of the beloved owner Lorraine Campbell, and personal notes from celebrities; most notably former Presidents Barack Obama and George Bush.
As the music began to reverberate up through the blue lights hanging over the stage, perfectly placed to enhance the already “Cool” ambiance, it was apparent from the first band to the last that the theme spoken by everyone we encountered, rang as true as the guitars, drums, and pianos telling its story; that JV’s Restaurant is and has always been about the music.
With 13 Live shows a week, friendly people, amazing food, and even better music; JV’s has the formula that can keep it going for another seventy-two years.
Whether you are a music fan or not, if you find yourself in Northern Virginia and you want to check out a truly hidden secret, stop by JV’s Restaurant and visit Lorraine’s “Living Room” where you can sit down and enjoy some music. You’ll never know who might walk in, perhaps the president of the United States, possibly a music legend or maybe both?
